Mechanic Job Description

Our drilling equipment mechanic will perform all maintenance and repair functions on all equipment per company policy and DOT regulations. The mechanic must be able to perform general maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting on various types of trucks and equipment used for our drilling operations. A general understanding of diesel engines, gas-powered engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and pumps is essential. Knowledge of drill rigs and equipment is preferred.

Flexibility, ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks, and good organizational skills are required as the mechanic will receive various requests daily. In addition, a positive attitude, along with a willingness to help other employees, is required. Working in a team environment without supervision is necessary for success. 

Essential Functions

  • Review all repair request forms, make suggestions, obtain pricing, and discuss options for completing repairs with the operations manager, as necessary
  • Repair and maintain all drill rigs, trucks, trailers, and other equipment
    • Hydraulic
    • Compressor
    • Diesel/Gas
    • Electrical
    • Drive Train
    • Brakes
  • Complete and maintain paperwork for all repairs and maintenance
  • Perform 90-day and annual inspections per DOT regulations on all drill rigs, trucks, trailers, and other equipment
  • Inspect and diagnose the physical condition of equipment regularly to ensure it meets all safety standards
  • Manage and direct field testing for all completed work requests; communicate results to initial requestor and shop supervisor or operations manager
  • Maintain proper notification and documentation of each vehicle’s downtime, fixes, and resolutions; and maintain files
  • Requisition materials, parts, and supplies
  • Keep rigs and equipment in good working order and condition
  • Document exceptions and forward them to the administrative assistant to enter into the computer
  • Use diagnostic equipment
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Perform all duties in compliance with safety practices, policies, procedures, and government regulations
  • Complete other duties and projects as assigned
  • Travel may be required to assist field operations

Mechanic Job Requirements and Qualifications

  • At least five years of mechanical experience
  • Ability to lift 100 pounds throughout the day
  • Proof of mechanical training, classes, and certification
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations
  • Knowledge of power/hand tools and diagnostic equipment
  • Read and understand manufacturer’s repair manuals
  • Computer competency
  • Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred) and clean driving record
  • Work overtime and various shifts
  • Fieldwork and occasional travel
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check, physical and functional capacity exam, and pulmonary function test
